Growing Old in America

David C. Coffin---August 1 2013

America is not an experiment. While we are a melting pot of civilization, we must not become a ruthless tyrant of our own whims. We must learn from the past, no matter how hard it seems. America once was, and will be again, the crowning achievement of humankind. The framers were serious when they said, "Liberty and Justice for All." This means making each breath count...and again each breath count. Our nation was a mish mash of settlers, explorers, outcasts, criminals, and die hards. Yet, our future boasts Athletes, Performers, Workers, Kings, Queens, and whatever you call yourself. It was the dreams of those poor settlers of the past, perhaps farther back before we were America, that we might bring something out of the hard wrought foundation that our ancestors were laying.

In the Heart of a Child Love is Spelled TIME

First and formost bring your children to your own watch. Give them the foundation and the building blocks. Sacrifice your own dreams, that they might become happier. And share your dreams with them, they may have the intuition to indulge in your own fantasies. Build them schools, and churches, and stores. Give them big meals and warm smiles. Give them security and freedom. Your children wish to spend their time with you parents, indulge in this.

No Place for Racism

You don't have to spend every waking second with the poor and ill. But, do not forget their needs. This place is our home and that means all are welcome. It is easy, incredibly easy, to compare, without thinking at all, and moving forward, when a gentle smile, and firm handshake, or a scribbled note might fancy those that are labeled and outcast. I'm willing to go as far as to say that your subconsious, and the person labeled subconsious, make a decision to attach this belief in absolute racism before our eyes have time to focus on their figure. A kind word is what you secretly want, it's what they want too.

Only Go Big, if You Can Think Big

There are countless excesses in America, and it seems we get by with them. Yet, can the American overachiever accept their own success, or are we automations without a focus? Once upon a time, maybe 50 years ago there were arms races. And once upon a time they made sense. We were in the wake of the most horrid wars of all time. Now that we're given the luxury of peace, at least for a time, can we raise a civilization in peace?!
